St. John "Theologos"

The monastery of St. John "Theologos" (the Theologian) is located in the village of Nikia in Nisyros. It is built on the edge of a rock and is surrounded by a cobbled courtyard, where the visitor can enjoy the tranquility of the landscape and the breathtaking view of the volcano. Particularly characteristic is the ornate bell tower of the monastery, sculpted from the lava of the volcano.

The monastery celebrates every year on 26 September, the day of the memory of St. John the Theologian.
